RIDE TO DATCA & KNIDOS - TURKEY

k008.jpg

Hello all, thought i would show you there is more to Turkey than Turkish delight and belly dancers!! Looking through my photos i remembered how beautiful our small trip to Knidos was, so heres how it went..

We started off from Dalaman and headed for Marmaris, Marmaris is one of the better known places to visit in Turkey and takes about one hour from Dalaman airport, Marmaris is very touristy, we prefer the quieter life in Dalaman.

Ok this is the view as we ride past Marmaris, this photo does not really do it justice, the place is huge, very busy in the Summer months and alot of ex-pats live here.

See what i mean about being scenic, we are now heading towards Datca, Datca is about 250Km from Dalaman and takes about 3 hours, this is because the roads are very twisty and very high Mountains.

Another view taken from the road. I didn't actually know Dave took this photo, he was having one of those old man weak bladder moments, so ı sat on the rock in a world of my own thinking how peaceful it was, not sounding corney but its one of those moments in time you remember,so was really pleased when i got home and downloaded the photos and saw this.

Here we are at Datca, the harbour full of boats and surrounded by palm trees.

Very hot in the Summer months in Turkey, so plenty of water..errr thats water not efes

So onto Knidos,

Now we have lived in Turkey for nearly 4 years, so you could say we are pretty used to the roads, but! even we were lets say...no not saying scared...yes i am we were frightened out of our lives when we climbed a mountain and all of a sudden a VERY sharp bend, no warning just as well we were going slow because we would of been off the mountain,

we passed through a very old traditional turkish village, i dont think they have ever seen a Honda Transalp before because they all stopped and stared at us, anyway heres the village..

Again the photo does this road no justice, the road was very narrow, strangly narrow and i wondered how big vehicles get down, but i suppose there arnt any. We had to climb more mountains that would then take us onto Knidos.

k037.jpg

Have you ever had one of those moments when your out on your bike and the road starts to get small and the mountains higher and you ask yourself ''WHAT IN THE HELL AM I DOING HERE'' Yep this is one of those times, but hey! we have come this far and the troopers that we are we braved it.

k038.jpg

Made it all in one pıece, didn't even fall off once...dave likes a bike challenge so he was well pleased with himself.

k040.jpg

By now he was ready to go back up and have another go!!

Whats at Knidos? thought you would ask that so i took a photo of the sign

k041.jpg

Of course i could of written this myself but they put it much better!!!

k042.jpg

A few photos and a 4 hour ride back to Dalaman, was it all worth it...well of course it was, thats all part of biking the thrill of the ride and the not knowing whats round the next bend.

k044.jpg

Theres one last photo i want to show you that i took when we were not far from home..

k064.jpg

So there you go, what more could you want to see........belly dancers!!!!!

See you soon with more Turkey Travels...Linda.
